Movies have a tremendous amount of planning and execution behind the scenes. Often the scenes which appear simple can have tremendous amounts of production behind it. There is often more than meets the eye. My team & I, went ahead to recreate one movie still from “Wake Up Sid”.

The above was the original shot from the movie which we set on to recreate. Following is what we accomplished.

The lighting for the shot was a strip & a grid from male’s actor shoulder and couple of cutters to avoid spillage. The grid illuminated the female’s face too along with providing a slight edge light to the male actor. Behind the female was a light on grid pointed at male actor’s face and another light with a snoot for hair light on female. Editing was to crop in a similar aspect ratio along-with basic adjustments. The scene was shot at f/8, 1/50th at ISO 100.

I can see a room from improvement but this exercise taught me a lot. It requires proper planning and execution even for light which feels simple. Kudos to the film production, lighting, art direction, DOP & various other team which work in cooperation to produce such good to watch films. Even if you are a photographer, it pays to watch films. You can learn a great deal about lighting from movies. At the end of the day, they are simply 24 stills(fps) encompassed in a second.

Toss those Speedlights!

What do you do when you are bored? When no idea comes to your mind? Then all of a sudden, you think, let’s throw those speed-lights up in the air! Here is what you get after having a few, “heart in your mouth” moments. If your speed-lights or the cute canine is hurt during tossing, do not blame me.😉

3 Years of 365 Project!

It’s three years! A grand three years in my 365 Project. Never imagined, I would reach so far. It has been a truly magnificent journey, trying to produce a unique photograph each day. What brings further joy to me is, if one perseveres, producing a photograph every day is indeed possible. As I look back, I can see how I am improving as a photographer.

2015 will be an awesome year. I will continue the 365 Project. Thank you for the strong support & hope it continues in 2015. Will work more hard and produce photographs, unimagined and unexplored previously!🙂

1000 days of non-stop Photography!

269-365

1000 days of non-stop photography! Each day trying to find something different & unique. Each day trying to find time to photograph. Each day letting somebody know of my project & making their day showcasing them in so called “pic of the day”. Days when inspiration came in numbers and at times in trickles. Days when I felt I was going down & at times up and up.

As I complete a perfect 1000 days of photography in my 365 Project, it seems like a dream. When I began, I hardly thought I would make it beyond a year. And now, the happiness of conquering the four figure mark. It brings immense satisfaction to know that I am dedicated to photography than anything in life. That I did not cheat but each day shot for the past 1000 days.

Yet it is not entirely my efforts that made this possible. The people made this journey possible. My friends who contributed in my daily vision, the strangers who became friends, the friends of friends, the nature, the flora and the fauna, the street characters, the toddlers, the inanimate & much more. To the people who appreciated and showered praise even when I knew deep within that this is not my best work. It only made me to work harder towards raising the bar each time, each day. Thank you!🙂

Two Years of 365 Project!

I did it, I successfully & honestly completed the 365 Project yet again for the second year on the trot. For those unaware, I had successfully completed 365 Project in my debut year(2012) & then resumed it in coming year 2013. Now as 2013 is done & dusted, so is my 365 Project for the year 2013.

360-365
Compared to 2012, 2013 – 365 Project went really smooth. Yes, there were days of mediocre photographs but thankfully they were few. Keeping the camera along always has helped me get good photographs & there have been days when I’ve been spoil for choice as to which one to upload. Its a problem of plenty & good to have. I’m grateful to all those souls who patiently waited for their meal as I was taking the food photograph at the restaurant, to the people who gave me their best as they faced the camera for my portrait, to those who supported me & my project even in difficult times. I further feel proud to know that I’ve inspired people to take up the 365 Project. There is no bigger joy than this. It keeps me going!

Surely, 2014 will present challenges of its own. Life is only going to get busier as responsibilities increase for me. However, once again I’ve begun with my 365 Project for the year 2014. Let’s see how I fare this time. Just a photo each day – simple as it sounds but having completed two years(and taken an oath not to repeat same photographs) will definitely make the project challenging. It would be great to have your support this time too. The place remains the same. Thank you.
